A Guide to Community Discovery

It's an edited accumulation of what I've been writing about Community Discovery over the past 3 years over at Rosie.land
Community Discovery is one of my favourite topics. As I was trying to explain how I approached building community I felt that the approaches that existed did not align with how I've built community.
Community Discovery is one part of an approach to building community that aims to bring research, clarity, purpose and focus to our work. Community still feels mysterious to many and a big part of this is down to a lack of understanding of our ecosystems and how everything is interconnected. Community Discovery is about trying to make sense of it all so that we can make better decisions.
My Community Discovery work is very influenced by the indie, bootstrap, tech and product world. It is also a play on Product Discovery though they are not the same thing, though our community work can very much feed into the products we end up building.
Yet, whilst certain worlds influence me, community is always at the heart of everything I do. I also study and believe in the more traditional sense of “community”, as a result I try my best to merge the old and new worlds together to help us make something modern and special.
The ideas within this guide are things that I actively practice. To me, this is not theory. This is the real work of building community.
My core belief is that we can build better worlds and businesses when we lead with community.
